1)        describe the cartoon and interpret its implications,
2)        discuss the relationship between tradition and modernization,
3)        offer your views and comments.
In the cartoon we see a servant bringing a cup of coffee for the emperor. The joke is that the idea of emperor and the idea of coffee do not usually come together. It is funny to think of the emperor drinking coffee. But the cartoon may yet have another meaning. It implies that emperor, if he were still there today, would learn to drink coffee. Modernization is a historical trend.
China is a country with a long history. It has special traditions and customs. They are the nation’s great treasures which we should do our best to preserve. However, as China opens up to the world, more and more foreign ideas and products come into country. How we take this western influence and what relationship should be established between the east and the west have become urgent questions for us to answer. For example, should we allow a coffee shop to be opened in the Forbidden City, a place which is thought to represent the essence of oriental life? Can the coffee shop integrate itself into the surrounding or will it from an eyesore?
I believe that we should be open-minded about western influence. If it is good, we should not refuse it. A coffee shop in the Forbidden City will not pose an threat to our traditional culture. It will instead provide a convenient resting place for visitors who have to walk through the huge palace. The spirit of the 21st century is one of cooperation and coexistence. We should allow different cultures to exist together and flourish together.

Nowadays more people are buying lottery tickets. Study the following charts carefully and write an article on the issue of lottery. In your article, you should
1)        describe the phenomenon,
2)        analyze the phenomenon, and
3)        give your comments on it.
Nowadays, more and more people, especially in big cities, become interested in buying lottery tickets(彩票). According to chart 1, averagely 70 percent of those polled in the survey, held in the three big cities, claimed to have dreamed of winning the big prize of five-million yuan. 85 percent of those polled in Guangzhou had had such a dream, compared with 65 percent and 60 percent, respectively, in Beijing and Shanghai.
The attraction of buying lottery tickets is obvious. The winner can get the biggest profit for the future with only a small investment. It realizes the beautiful dream of every participant—to be richer and to improve living standards. As is shown in Char 2, should they win a big lottery, 81.3% of  people  would buy a new house, 61.7% would buy save the money for their kid’s education. And a great proportion of people say they would put the money in the bank or use it for investment or touring. However, this phenomenon has also come under criticism. Some regard it as a kind of gambling, which is potentially addictive behavior.
In my opinion, buying lottery tickets is not so bad as some people think. Instead, it is good for society by creating new jobs and representing an important source of charity and sports causes. Of course, it is not a means of making money for individual we should encourage, because the result is hardly predictable. Therefore, we should take a positive but cautious attitude towards lottery buying behavior.

Study the following drawing carefully and write an essay in which you should

2)        interpret its implications
3)        give your comments
As we can see in the picture, a horse is starting the first step in his journey vigorously. The prancing horse, together with the line of words beneath that every journey begins with the first step, implies the importance of beginnings, and the necessity of getting off to a right start in anything that one undertakes.
As we all know, the foundations of a building must be strong, or else the whole structure will fall down someday. The pioneering of any enterprise always contains the soul of it, in which is wrapped the whole motive, purpose and plan of the venture. The success of autumn crops depends on the initial steps taken in the spring. Therefore, it seems that the beginning point is dynamic and alive and often more important than any other point in the journey. When asked about the key to success, a successful author replied that the most helpful thing was to start writing. Without taking the first step, potential genius will contents itself with mediocrity. Only by trying, the first can produce the second, the second the third, and so on to the very goal.
In sum, there is a magic potential in the first step taken toward a successful end in view.

study the following cartoon carefully and write an essay in which you should:
1)        describe the cartoon and problem it reveal,
2)        discuss the present situation in sports and other problems related to sports,
3)        offer you solutions
The cartoon describes a table tennis match. One player launches a good attack, but his opponent pulls the table away and the Ping-Pong ball falls on the ground. The opponent wins, not by skill but by cheating. This cartoon reflects a general problem in the sports of today. Almost all Olympic Games are marred by scandals of cheating.
Take drug abuse(滥用药品) as example. Although the International Olympic Committee has forbidden the use of drugs and implemented urine and blood tests, there are still athletes who take risks, counting on their luck to escape the tests. It is probably the inevitable result of the change in the purpose of sports. Sports were once related with friendship and fair competition, but now more with nationalism, national anthems and national flags. People are encouraged not to appreciate individual’s skills and strengths, but to support their national teams. Sports are also related with personal success and money. If you win, you win fame and money. And for these, athletes will do anything, including cheating. This is long way off the original aim of sports of Olympics, which is to improve health, promote cooperation and teamwork, provide enjoyment and increase friendship.
To stop cheating in sports, it is not enough only to strengthen rules in competition. We should also highlight the original purpose of the sports and minimize negative influence of commerce and narrow nationalism. Moreover, those who stick to the spirit of sports should be rewarded even though they are not the winners.

Now some Chinese college students are very dependent on their parents. Study the following picture carefully and write an essay, in which you should cover the following points:
1)        a description of the picture and the problems it reveals;
2)        the cause of these problems;
3)        your views on the phenomenon.
How vivid and accurate the picture is in describing one of the most serious social problems concerning college students in China! As is shown in the picture, a college student, held in his father’s arm, concentrates on the book he is reading, whereas his father, sweating, carries him with great difficulty. It clearly reveals that in current China, college students are, more often than not, a burden for their parents to shoulder rather than independent young adults, as they should be.
It is widely known that recent years have witnessed a dramatic increase in various fees charged by the universities. High tuition fees, plus lodging and other expenses, have become a heavy burden for university students’ parents, many of whom are farmers or laid-off workers(下岗工人). Parents’ worries also come from the heavy dependency of today’s college students, many of whom are bookworms depending on their parents for everything, Some of them even send clothes home for their parents to wash. In their mind, it is indisputably parents’ duty to take care of them.
In my opinion, college students should be educated to stand on their own two feet. And government and education institutes should also help to relieve the parents’ economic burdens. Fortunately, some measures have been taken. For example, banks distribute loans to students; universities cut down charges on poor students and provide them with part time employment. As a result, we have witnessed some improvements but still there is a long way to go.

Study the following drawing carefully and write an essay in which you should cover these points:
1)        a description of the picture;
2)        the problems it reveals;
3)        your views on the phenomenon.
As is shown in this picture, two doctors are trying hard to squeeze a sheet, but out of our expectation(出乎意料), where they get from the wet sheet is not water but money.
Obviously, this picture implies a horrible phenomenon in China: what hospitals care most is earning money instead of saving lives. It is a secret from no one that some hospitals nowadays are making profits by prescribing more expensive medicine to patients or arranging unnecessary medical examinations for them. They get such a high profit hat it seems they’ve got the license to print money. What these hospitals forget is one crucial principle that should be observed as their doctrine—hospital should be the right place to save lives rather than somewhere to make undue profits.
Then how to avoid a further worsening of this tendency has become  hotly discussed topic in media. One measure is to make the purchasing process more transparent, thus to bring down the price of medicines. Moreover, the patients should be well informed so that they may buy cheaper medicine which has the same effects as the expensive one. We have confidence that, if sound measures are taken, hospitals will become a much purer place in the near future.

Nowadays, many female college graduates find it very hard to fine a satisfying position because the employers set extra requirements for them to meet. Study the following drawing carefully and write an essay which you should
1)        describe the picture;
2)        discuss the causes of the phenomenon;
3)        find some solutions.
I was profoundly shocked by what I have seen in this picture. As is shown in the picture, employers are particular about the female applicants for vacancies. They have extra requirements that women job seekers should be young and beautiful, but ironically, they only offer the low-paying positions without retirement pension, welfares, and weekends.
What is reveled in this picture is a prevalent phenomenon in contemporary society. Some employers set very high standards for their female employees who must be not only qualified in education, but also outstanding in personal appearance. Therefore, it is not strange to hear reports about female graduates from famous universities failing to find a job because of the prejudices and the high standard held by the employers.
Then what can we do to tackle this problem? One of the solutions, in my opinion, is that a positive attitude should be created in society towards female applicants. Women can over perform men in many aspects such as carefulness, patience, delicacy. On the other hand, female employers also should have confidence and the firm belief hat if they are really, they can surely find a satisfactory job despite all the prejudices.

Write an essay with the title “reading books in Printed Form or on Computer” in which you should
1)        analyze the strong points and the weak points of each one,
2)  tell your own preference and your reasons

The popularization of computer has made it possible to read books on computer. With it, there is much discussion about whether e-books will replace traditional print-on-paper books.
Some people say they like only e-books, which are quicker and more convenient to get and use. To get a needed book, one has to spend much time or money in searching for buying it in bookstores, but one can just type in the title, author or other related information of the book to find it in minutes on internet. Sometimes one can even read the full content to a digitized book free of charge or instantly discuss about a book in an online forum. Moreover, a lot of information of books can be stored in small compact disc, which is easy to take.
Other people, however, think printed books are still necessary. In the first place, too much time in front of the computer can cause eyestrain or increase radiation risks. Second, a printed book can be read at your convenience .One can read in bed before sleep or during a boring journey, without fussing with a computer.
In sum, since e-books and printed books have their respective advantages and can complement each other, I would like to combine the two ways to meet different needs. For quick reference, a digitized book will probably be useful. To appreciate a poem or a novel, I prefer the traditional way of reading on printed books.

Study the following picture carefully and write an essay in which you should
1)        describe the picture,
2)        interpret its implications in life, and
3)        support your vies with examples.
The picture presents us with a scene when a young man is climbing up a high and steep mountain. As there is no ready path leading up to the top, the climber is confronted with difficulties, obstacles, and even dangers. Without sufficient strength, iron will, enough patience and courage, it seems impossible for him to reach the summit.
The case with the climber, I suppose, is true of people in all walks of life. Anyone who longs for a meaningful and successful life has to ascend from the starting point up to his/her goal as the climber does. Consequently, the fight for success can be won only by those who have strong resolutions and inflexible spirits. Successes can never be attained without painstaking effort and perseverance.
Countless facts justify my arguments. Thomas A. Edison, who was once a paper boy on the train, would never have become a great scientist and inventor, hadn’t he made persistent endeavors to achieve success. As a college graduate, I’m resolved to pursue graduate studies and achieve something significant in my field despite of any troubles, hindrances, or even failures. I believe that there is nothing hard in the world only men lack a strong mind.

2)        interpret its meaning, and
3)        state your plan to do so

The picture shows that an adult hand holding a gold coin is going to drop it into a piggybank, on which two academic caps are represented. The picture is simple and its meaning is clear: young adults should manage to finance themselves for their higher education rather than rely on their families for support.
The market economy and competitive society prompt most young people to drive themselves vigorously studying for higher academic degrees, and some of them are seeking opportunities to study abroad. However, great expense hinders them from their goals. In overcoming the financial obstacle, self-reliance is most advisable while dependence on parents or relatives is shameful.
As an adult student, I am planning to pursuer graduate studies by work-study strategy. First, I shall go through my first two-year course by both winning scholarships with excellent academic achievements and taking part-time jobs. Then, I’ll interrupt my regular course to work for a certain organization or company for one or two years. This I shall do for the double purpose of saving enough money for further education and getting some knowledge of social conditions, which may help to turn my book learning into something practical. When I resume my graduate studies, I shall finish my program with a both creative and practical thesis.

Study the following graph carefully and write an essay which should cover
1)        general situation of crime victims in U.S.,
2)        the most frequent victims and their implications, and
3)        your comment.

Although highly industrialized, the U.S. society is characterized by crimes of violence and theft. The crime victims, as the graph shows, cover a wide range of age groups, from teenagers to the elderly. People aged 12-15 are the most frequent victims of theft, and those aged 16-19 occupy first place in the violence victims. In general, youngsters under 24 are the prime victims of both crimes.
It is obvious that the U.S. young generation is living in danger of suffering and committing crimes, which indicates the fatal wound of U.S, education and the deterioration of its social morality. Growing up in the circumstance filled with unchecked abuse of guns and drugs, violence on TV and in the movies, racial discrimination, etc. the American youngsters can hardly escape the destiny of being their victims.
It is also clear that the safety of the U.S. people as a whole is seriously threatened by crimes. The American society, I am afraid, would be ruined if no drastic measures were to be taken to check crimes of violence and theft, and to strengthen both school and public education in morality and ethics.

Study the following pictures carefully and write an essay entitled “after picnics”
in the essay you should
1)        describe the pictures,
2)        give your comment on the phenomena, and
3)        suggest possible measures to change them.
The picture are true records of some people’s unhealthy behavior, in which we can see all the wastes discarded by the picnickers: refuse newspapers, plastic bottles, tin cans, food wrapping and leftovers. The litter in the public places witnesses certain people’s uncivilized conduce for lack of social morality and the sense of environmental protection. Obviously, their foolish behavior results in destruction of natural landscapes, violation of public sanitation, and pollution of environment.
These people may be unconscious of their wrongdoings, but it is this unconsciousness that is most worrying and shocking, for it signifies a deep-rooted bad habit that could hardly be rid of without sufficient education and social supervision.
Unfortunately, this phenomenon is not rare or occasional. Besides littering, many ill habits, such as spitting everywhere, making terrible noises regardless of time and place, rude or even violent manners toward others, etc., are all incompatible with modern civilization. Although such people are in minority, their bad behavior is causing serious problems.
The effective measures to be taken to change the situation may include strengthening public education, making related laws and regulations, establishing strict social supervision and penalty systems.
I believe our society will become more beautiful and healthful when everyone is consciously watchful of his/her behavior.

study the following picture carefully and write an essay in which you should
1)        describe the picture,
2)        analyze the causes of the problem, and
3)        propose possible solutions.
The picture presents a real traffic scene in which endless columns of vehicles have jammed the road, making movement impossible. Much valuable time is wasted and many important businesses are delayed in the helpless waiting for progress. It’s no exaggeration to say that the inconvenience and losses caused by traffic jams are inestimable.
Traffic problem is an inescapable outcome of social and economical development, and therefore is common to most capital cities all over the world. The accelerated urbanization, the rapid increase of private cars, and the lag of road construction are responsible for traffic congestion.
As the traffic problem involves many factors, there is no single measure that can solve it once for all. For the present, realistic solutions may include:
To give priority to improving and developing mass-transit system, both ground and underground;
To set up proper limits to private vehicles;
To perfect traffic regulations and management, and
To advocate bicycling or walking between home and office.
However, any successful resolution of the problem depends not so mush on public concerns and appeals as on the initiative and determination of the local municipal administrations.

Study the following chart carefully and write an essay in which you should
1)        analyze the chart,
2)        interpret its meaning, and
3)        suggest possible measure to take.

The chart shows that the U.S. workforce, about 145 million in number, matched job demands well in 2000. However, the gap between workforce and jobs, especially skilled jobs, appeared soon after 2001. The shortage of skilled workers is estimated to grow to about 5.5 million in 2010, and 25 million in 2020.

The cartoonist warns that the supply of labor is about to fall seriously short of demand, which means that the economical development will be hampered by the scarcity of labor, especially skilled workers, over the next 20 years. The labor squeeze may result from the fact that the existing workforce is going to get out soon, and the feeder pool just isn’t coming up.

Possible precautions against the threat of labor shortage may include: providing effective job training for most employees, bidding up wages for skilled workers, tempting older workers to stay on the jobs they are skilled in, and lobbying the government to raise the share of skilled immigrants. Anyhow, what Americans are to do least is ignore the severity of the problem.

Study the following map graph carefully and write an essay in which you should
1)        describe oil fields distribution,
2)        state the information the map graph tends to convey, and
3)        give your comment.
The draft map shows the distribution of oil fields discovered over the five continents. As illustrated on the map, there are only five oil fields developed before 1950 that are located in Asia and America. The number of oil fields primarily developed between 1950-1980 is increased up to eight that are situated respectively in America, Asia and Africa. The new and potential oil fields marked with circles are much greater in number than the previous ones. They are scattered all around the globe except Africa.
The map graph tends to tell us the growing quantity of oil fields by which the location countries have made and will make fortunes because of the reliance of modern society on oil, without which our life and production would come to a standstill. The map graph presents us an optimistic picture showing that Asia and America have the greatest potential for new oil production. It might be logical to expect continuing falls in the price of oil throughout the world.
As a matter of fact, however, the world oil resources are limited and irreproducible. Endless oil exploitation and consumption would mean nothing but digging man’s own grave. The recent soar of oil price is the latest warning of the danger. The best way out seems to turn to renewable energy sources.

Read the following cartoon carefully and write an essay in which you should
1)        describe the cartoon,
2)        state its main idea, and
3)        give your comment.

The cartoon displays a robot shaped like the Statue of Liberty in New York, which is an emblem of the United States. His right hand holds high a glowing electric bulb while his left hand grips a notice board with a poster on it: “U.S. High Teach Drive”. On the left of the robot’s head are the words be uttered, asking people to send her programmers, scientists, electrical engineers, researchers, technicians, computer systems specialists, and so forth.

The main idea of the cartoon is quite plain: in the intensively competitive era of high-tect, The contest for superiority focuses on technical personnel, especially scientific talents. The cartoon reveals the U.S. scarcity of highly qualified scientific and technical workers and its eager desire for them.

It would be no exaggeration to say that the 21st century is marked by the fight for educated elites.  Every nation, with no exception of our own, should put its personnel strategy before everything else if it is unwilling to lag behind in development. Now we can see that the worldwide struggle for winning gifted or outstanding scientists and technologists is become more and more intense.

The cartoon depicts a vivid scene in which two strong cyclists riding two similar bicycle labeled  “ENERGY        “ and “ENVIRONMENT” respectively, ate furiously dashing head on against each other. The most striking feature of the cartoon may be the dripping sweat of the cyclists and the single front wheel shared by the two bikes, which shows the intensity and inevitability of their struggle.

The main idea of the cartoon is apparent: the need to produce and consume energy comes into acute conflict with the need to preserve the environment. The rapid expansion of populations and their increasing demands for a better living lie at the root of deterioration of the natural environment. The steady augmentation of energy production and consumption required by unrestricted economic growth has led to the disastrous consequence of environmental pollution.

Can we find a way to get out of the awkward situation? I presume it of vital importance for man to realize that he is an integral part of nature, the destruction of which means the perishing of himself. I also have confidence in modern technology and genius which will enable man to change present energy patterns to avoid environmental pollution. The appearance of ecological products promise a bright prospect of settling the energy-environment contradiction.

Life means interaction with people
The two men in the drawing seem to have bumped into each other head-on. One of them has dropped down to the ground. They are staring at each other in surprise.
I can’t help wondering what they would do next. How will they solve the issue? They are obviously two strangers who happen to bump against each other. It’s an accident, one we would come across on a daily basis. However, such an accident may develop into a bitter quarrel or an ugly fight. In some extreme cases, the loss of life can be caused.
In our daily routines, remember to say you are sorry if you do somebody else wrong, and be ready to be forgiving if you are offended. When you have an issue with somebody, try to find a nice way out. As the old saying goes, “Out of blow friendship grows.” Well, I hope the two men in the drawing can settle their “collision” in a friendly way. After all, life means interaction with people, though sometimes rather unexpectedly.

Let love stay
In the drawing, we can see that a man is about to kill himself by jumping down from the tall building. Some rescuers are doing their best to save him. A large crowd has gathered on the ground, watching. What hurts me and makes my blood hot is the young guy. He is such a money maniac that he starts his moneymaking by renting out telescope there. And some people seem to be more interested in the spectacle than concerned about the death of a desperate person. What a heartless lot they are.
The picture reveals a saddening phenomenon in our society that the obsession of money in some people has driven away the humanity in them.
Look at the picture: a life is at stake. Let’s do something to save him. Encouraging remarks may cheer him up to give up the foolish idea. Heart-to-heart talks may remove the thought that has troubled him. The call of love will wake up the hope in his heart. The love from our society will certainly give him the courage to live. So I call to people to stretch out our helping hands. Let love stay and let life stay.
Test three
Let’s save our natural resources
What is depicted in the cartoon is not an uncommon phenomenon: the public tap is running non-stop and a man is about to fetch some water for his own use. Clearly the man has not the least intention of turning off the tap to save water. He seems to be enjoying the running of the water. The drawing reveals the wasteful disposition in some people.
We know that the world is faced with a great resource crisis. Time and again we red in papers about shortage of water, energy, grain, etc. With a huge population, China, in particular, is under even great pressure of natural resources. Statistics show that half of population in China suffers from water shortage. The guy in the picture should be ashamed of himself, for he is wasting a precious resource. Water means life to people in drought-stricken areas.
Now our country is striving for building an economical society, which calls on everyone to do his or her share to save the limited resources we have. Maybe we can begin with a good habit of switching off the light when we leave, and turning off the tap after using it. Let’s save our natural resources.

In the picture a young man is wandering in a forest of bowls, leaving his footprints everywhere. Obviously he is looking for his rice-bowl—a job, and he hasn’t found what he wants. He feels frustrated, “Why so difficult for a college graduate to find a job?”
Look at the picture again: though he is surrounded by rice-bowls, he fails to pick up one. Yes, these bowls are overturned. If he only turned one of them over, he would be sure to have one. Clearly he is blind to the chance at hand, and is not prepared to take his chance. Or in other words, would he be able to have a real career? Clearly he is not well prepared in that aspect.
The point to find a job is to prepare yourself to identify and take the chance, more importantly, to prepare yourself well, mentally, intellectually and physically to take the challenge in front of you. Remember, “ Luck favors only the prepared mind.”

“Heaven helps those who help themselves”
Parents are kneeling in front of a god, burning incense and praying for the future of their son. The irony about the cartoon is that while the couple spend ninety-nine hundred and ninety-nine yuan on an offer to god in the hope that their son could enter college, will god answer their prayer? I’m afraid not.
The drawing well illustrates the prevailing tendency among people, that is, to worship god. People seem to believe in the superpower of gods of various kinds. They pray for promotion, for marriage, for admission into university as is the case in the drawing.
But an old saying goes like this:” Heaven helps those who help themselves”. Therefore, to achieve what you want you have to work hard. It is wise of parents to understand their children and help them realize their dreams, rather than praying to god for children. Pray stop worshiping god! Your fate is in your hands.

Study the following drawing carefully and write an essay in which you should1)describe the drawing, 2)interpret its symbolic meaning , and  3) give your comment.
What a thought-provoking picyure: two people are braving the world in their small boat at night, the waves roaring and the stars shinning. Inevitably there are dangerous rocks at sea, but with their ideals in mind, they pluck up their courage to forge ahead.
What the cartoon symbolically reveals is that ideals, just like stars, can spur us to break through the darkness into our desired goal. Life is unimaginable without ideals. Helen Keller, without ideals inspired by her dearest teacher, would not have “seen ” so many things through mere touch, and hence would not have moved the world by her touching story. In the same way, Zhang Haidi, given her poor physical condition, would not have become a well-known writer without her ambition to rival life. With ideals encouraging us, we are moving forward more eagerly and confidently.
As dark night is formidable, so is a life void of ideals. Ideals are stars overhead, leading us to plough the sea of difficulties. With ideals in mo\mind, we can cure fatal diseases; tame the ocean and we have every reason to believe that the future can only be better.

Vitality on Great Peaks
In the picture, we cannot simply see a quite snow-covered mountain, but a mountain of vigorous life. A hard indisputable reason remains: three mountain-climbers just represent “vitality on great peaks”, which is written at the bottom of the picture.
It is those people who dare to challenge the highest peaks that deserve the most fascinating sight of life. Only when you dare to burn the bridge, can you push forward whole-heartedly and win the battle wonderfully. Only when you are willing to leave the clam life of dwelling on your quiet farm, can you appreciate the overwhelming beauty of surging billows, which will inspires you to find the true meaning of life. And the true meaning of life lies in the challenging of the past, which is symbolized by the foot of the snow mountain when it comes to the picture offered above.
In reality, some people are inclined to be content with their present life and they are willing to pass their life in a steady lifestyle. Some others, however, are constantly aggressive, almost restless in pursuing their aims. It is hard to say the former way is dull but it is really the latter that will make our life as colorful and beautiful as the magnificent scenery. Put it the other way around, when the sightseer is standing on the top of a mountain, his sense of victory is beyond any limited description.

Enjoy day, Accept Night
Currently, car price war in China contributes to the ever-increasing car sales. As the cartoon indicates, many people take the opportunity to realize their car dream, but without noticing the rising costs in maintenance, gasoline, insurance and training.[开门见山,描述图画内容,表明主题]
What the cartoon seems to suggest is that to afford the luxury, you have to be financially and psychologically prepared. There’s no denying the fact that a car provides you with comfort and convenience, but before buying a car you have to take into account its costs. In the wake of your owning a car, the annual cost May rang from several thousands to tens of thousands yuan. If relevant costs increase, you will have to face it as it is.[从正反两方面论证车价降费用涨的矛盾现象]
As far as I am concerned, I would rather take a taxi than buy a car myself. Besides the costs, you will have to take great trouble to find a parking lot, to worry about a possible accident, to guard against its being stolen…. Furthermore, you will find yourself lazy by owning a car: wherever you go, you are at the wheels; in the long run, it may damage your health. Anyhow, to buy or not to buy in the face of lowering car price and relevant rise of costs, the choice is yours.[从中得到的启迪]

Recently a newspaper launched a discussion: “A women’s career, particularly if it is successful, is often blamed of the break-up of a marriage, but never a man’s”, according to this, you can write an essay in which you should
1.        Interpret the saying,
2.        Give your comments on the asying, and
3.        Write a title for your essay.

Women are not Scapegoat
A self-evident prejudice against is made clear by the given saying that a woman’s career, particularly if it is successful, is often blamed for the break-up of a marriage, but never a man’s. What I want to say as a comment is that women are not scapegoat.
This saying is a kind of prejudice. On the one hand, women should also have the rights to have their career. The prejudice lies in the fact that it has been branded in our mind that women should be inferior to men and they should be at home to foster children and help their husband. On the other hand, if there is a failure of marriage, it is a problem of the both sides’ feelings rather than anyone’s responsibilities. Or sometimes there can be one side that should be responsible for the failure but it is not necessarily women’s fault. Besides, though movements for women’s rights have achieved much in the past, there is still much room for improvement. Where there is room for improvement, there is such prejudice against women.
As a conclusion, what has been traditionally taken for granted in our mind should be replaced by more rational ideas. From now on, it should be prescribed in our mind as law of various nations that everyone is born equal and they should be on equal terms.

Enormous changes tookl place in the last two decades of the 20th century, which is revealed in the changes on infrastructure construction in many cities. Here are two correspondent pictures. You are required to
1)        Compare and contrast the pictures,
2)        Interpret the causes of what has taken place in the pictures, and
3)        Make your own comments.
As two pictures features dearly, ten years ago, Xiangyang Street was a mess: broken road, dirty houses, and filthy water running everywhere. The years later, Xiangyang Street has taken on a new look: it’s now the straightest of streets without a trace of filth to be seen.
What the set of pictures reveals is that the last ten years have witnessed enormous changes in infrastructure construction in many cities of china. Why does this happen? The past decade is a time when China has been booming at an unprecedented speed. With its GDP increasing over 9 percent, China’s economic advancement has in turn quickened the pace of fundamental constructions, including roads, sewage system and other public utilities. The new look of the city proves to be beneficial to the residents in more than one way: on the one hand, they have a better living environment, and on the other hand, their beautiful city can attract tourists from home and abroad, thus helping to boost the local economy.
To develop is the ultimate truth. A wealthy country is the source of happiness for its people, so it is up to everybody to make every effort to make our city, our country a better place to live in.

Read the following saying and write an essay in which you should
1) interpret the saying,
2) give your comments on the saying, and
3) write a title for your essay.
A woman's career, particularly if it is successful, is often blamed for the break-up of a marriage, but never a man's.
Who bears the blame?
While people are shocked by the steady rise of divorce rate, many of them are seriously contemplating the causes of this tendency. Unfortunately, some of them are attributing it to the successful careers of the women. In their eyes, a successful woman devoted to her career will certainly neglect her duties to her husband, her children and thus results in the break-up of the family. This accusation is unfair and absolutely unacceptable.
Shifting the blame to women's career, this accusation ignores the more fundamental factors that often underlie the disruption of a marriage, like sex problems, financial difficulties, some personal misfortunes or so-called "affairs outside the marriage". Actually, this accusation is deeply rooted in the traditional prejudice against women, which insists that a woman should stay in the kitchen, at home, taking care of her husband and children. And thus the woman spending too much time on her career will certainly bear the blame for the break-up of the marriage.
Clearly, to blame a career woman for the break-up of the marriage is groundless. The important point is that only when people probe the problems in the marriage in an objective way can they find the solutions to the problems.

Write an article to an English newspaper discussing laid-off workers and re-employment in China. In your article you should
    1) describe briefly the present situation of unemployment.
    2) analyze the causes of it.
3) give advice on re-employment.
Recent years have witnessed a steady rise of unemployment rate in China. On the one hand, factories are either introducing more automated equipments or simply closing down. On the other hand, more and more workers are being laid off.
The present situation of unemployment can be attributed to several factors. For one thing, intense competition from private and foreign enterprises is reducing many state-owned factories to bankruptcy, which renders a large proportion of workers jobless. For another, the arrival of information age and the rapid high-tech development are reshaping the factories, which means that fewer workers will do all the work and thus the unemployment.
To solve this problem, the government should try to create more job opportunities for the workers. In the meantime, the workers themselves will have to "go back to schools" to receive reeducation or training so as to adjust themselves to the new requirements of the job market.

Look at the following chart provided by the provincial consumers' association. Write an essay to illustrate the information of the chart accompanied by your comments.

People are more and more conscious of their rights as consumers. As the chart by the provincial consumers' association shows, they are more concerned about the quality of products they buy. Nearly 60 percent of the claims they made in 2002 aim at it, in comparison with the claims to the other aspects like prices, measurements, sales contracts, safety and advertisements. And as expected, of all the categories of goods and sectors, daily commodities, service sector and household electronic and electrical appliances suffer higher rates of complaints from customers, the rates of which were 28.91%, 27.35% and 22.25% respectively in 2002. Complaints against other sectors are relatively fewer.
People show more attention to the quality of products and services because the false and fake products and products of inferior quality, plus inefficient and in many cases bad services are extremely common. The situation is not just harming the consumers' rights and interests; it is damaging people's trust and confidence in our manufacturers and service providers as well.
It is high time for both our government and business sectors to take action to improve their work. Otherwise, our national reform and economic development will suffer enormously.

Something is terribly wrong with this Chinese company. As illustrated in the table, of a total number of 160 staff, managers are 25, accounting for nearly 16 percent, while the 65 supervisors constituting almost 41 percent. The percentage of workers on the assembly lines only amounts to a little over 43 percent. On the other hand, the table indicates that, of the total amount of payment, manager gets 1.5 million, plus 1.95 million to the supervisors, which totaled 3.45 million, accounting for 83 percent of the entire amount. The workers who are the mainstay of the company get only 0.7 million, about only 16 percent.
That kind of inverted hierarchy will have negative effects on the company, the most obvious of which is that more managers and supervisors will mean more departments and positions. And that will surely cause less efficiency. Meanwhile, the ill-balanced payment system will definitely dampen the workers' enthusiasm and weaken their motivation for they feel they are being underpaid and exploited.
It is highly imperative for the company to reform its structure and payment system. Otherwise it won't take long for the company to go into bankruptcy.
